SAC Museum's Convair T-29. The SAC Museum, oops I
mean, Strategic Air & Space Museum, is located on Interstate 80 west of Omaha, Nebraska. This site is

I was an IN at Ellington AFB on the T-29. What a deja vu experience to re-live the aircraft.
I recall that some of the aircraft had a periscopic sextant. Using it separated the men from the boys; you really had to know celestial to use it. I actually preferred it since I hated (and was terrified) of using the dome.
I was a nav student at Mather AFB in 1967 and have many fond memories of the T-29. I went on to become an EWO, F-4 Wild Weasel in Vietnam and later transferred to the Navy and flew Phantoms and Tomcats off of carriers. But the humble T-29 was always a first love. This is a superb job of restoration on old 109.
I trained at Ellington (1955) and later (1960 -1964) instructed at Harlingen and James Connaly. Great job. Would love to see a photo of the radar station APS 23 Q-24.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a remarkable restoration. You even found the unobtainable rubber visor for the R 65A APN 9 LORAN A set.
I am impressed!
